Network port usage by Condor is a nightmare
  • each job uses multiple ports;
  • each machine in the pool must be able to talk to all others — assuming all submit nodes;
  • experience shows that opening up all ports > 1023 to all other pool machines is the only headache-free solution.
Do you trust all those other machines? No!!!
  • Have few submit nodes — only these plus the collector/negotiator need talk to all other nodes
  • More like the traditional batch model. . .
