RHEL v6.2 and HP Servers
The Problem
On attemping a PXE install of some HP servers with RHEL 6.2 the following messages appear on screen
NMI received for unknown reason XY on CPU 0 Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled? Dazed and confused, but trying to continueand the internal health LED changes from green to red. At some random time thereafter the server locks up; the hard-disk activity light goes red.
Actually, on rare occasion, the installation finishes, but then the server locks at some random time after boot.
Background
All was well with RHEL 5.5.
Red Herrings and Wild Goose Chases
- There are multiple ACPI warning/error messages in the logs, so boot with acpi=off in kernel parameters: warnings and errors go away; disk activity light no longer goes red; but server still locks up.
- There was no problem with several similar HP servers installed previously, so what is the difference? These have IB. Remove the IB. No difference.
- Also tried noapic, nohpet, nmi_watchdog=0. . .
Solution
- HP
admit there is a problem. - A CentOS user found the solution.
