9. Networking

9.1. Configuration One: DHCP --- Superseded.

Following the Windoze config (other boot), needed to setup DHCP. Used /sbin/netconfig to select DHCP. Restared networking (/etc/init.d/network restart) and all was well (check with netstat -r) except for hostname; using the graphical net-config gizmo to delete the hardwired hostname fixed this --- now picked up from DHCP too.

9.2. Configuration Two: Static IPs --- Current (2003 July 08)

Wanted an additional layer of security through router ACLs. For this the machines needed to be on their own subnet/VLAN. Currently on 130.88.155.* with the George Begg Public Cluster. The machines are now on 130.88.149.97--124, netmask 255.255.255.224, gateway 130.88.149.125.
