Accessing Cosmos via X (using eXceed)

To access Cosmos from a Windows platform, use eXceed or XFree86/Cygwin this cluster, use eXceed. To get going, start eXceed, then a terminal (xterm) and an editor, as below:


ISD Public Clusters

From the menu:

  1. Start->Programs->Unix Systems->xterm session.xs.
  2. Fill in the User ID and Password.
  3. Click OK.


In General

  1. Start eXceed: Start->Programs->Exceed->xstart.

  2. Fill in the form...
    1. Program Type: X Window
    2. User ID: your account
    3. Host: cosmos.umist.ac.uk
    4. Password: your account
    5. Host Type: leave blank
    6. Command:
                /usr/openwin/bin/xterm -ls -sb -display 130.88.???.???:0
            
      --- where the question-marks are replaced by the IP address of your machine.


  3. Then click "Run!" You should get an xterm (a terminal window) displayed.
